Photos and Story of a Special Car that was attended our 2006 Show & Shine
Michael & Sharon co-own a 1985 Corvette that was in our show. They provided us with a short story about the car & how it came to be.
"We wanted to put graphics on our car that had meaning to us. I suggested my Dad's ship-My Dad was fire control-2nd class aboard the USS LUDLOW DD-438 for four years of his life. He enlisted at 17 yrs with permission of his mother. When WWII broke out, he already had one year of experience aboard a Destroyer. I found out, later, that fire control did not put out fires---They fired at anything incoming!! My Dad shot the 40mm guns that took out enemy planes. I think I could never be as brave as he. I met many of his shipmates and loved them all. Many that I met are now gone. The two reunions that Michael and I did, gave us real insight into what went on in the battles that took place. Our 1985 Corvette is a reflection of this. Some Stats -----The "Lucky Lud" as she was known, was a Benson-Livermore class Destroyer. The USS Ludlow was awarded Six battle stars for its meritorious service. It sank a German U-Boat-U960. The USS Ludlow participated valiantly in the battle theaters of North Africa, Salerno & Anzio Italy, and Southern France. I am proud of my Dad and all who served with him. This Corvette is a Memorial to them!!
My Dad will be 83 years old September 20. My Mom, who went through this war with him, will be 81 years old July 20 of this year. I can honestly say that I am truly proud of my parents-they are part of THE GREATEST GENERATION!! They fought the biggest battles, they took care of the home front. They never complained about injustice. The Veterans that did make it home, raised families, bought homes and gave all of us Baby Boomers a good life. If they did not fight, would we be living under the Third Reich or The Empire of Japan? I will always support the Veterans- no matter what war they fought.!!
The paint and body work was done by Corvette Connection of Bolton, CT. The Graphics were done by Vital Signs of Brooklyn, CT."
